Halperin Park: Dallas’ Newest Landmark Is Reconnecting Oak Cliff

There’s a new reason for Texans to take a trip to Southern Dallas.

The long-awaited Halperin Park has officially opened, and it’s already becoming one of the most talked-about public spaces in North Texas. Built directly over Interstate 35E in the historic Oak Cliff area, this transformational park is more than just green space — it’s a symbol of community, restoration, and the future of Dallas.

A Park With a Purpose

For decades, Interstate 35E divided neighborhoods in Oak Cliff. Families, businesses, and historic communities were physically separated when the highway system expanded through Southern Dallas in the 1950s.

Now, Halperin Park is helping reconnect those communities.

Stretching above the freeway between Ewing and Marsalis avenues near the Dallas Zoo, the park was designed as a gathering place where culture, recreation, and community can come together. Organizers describe it as a “park with a purpose,” focused not only on recreation but also on economic growth, neighborhood pride, and bringing people together.

The first phase of the project includes:

• Large open green spaces
• Interactive fountains and splash areas
• A children’s playground
• Walking paths and scenic overlooks
• A performance pavilion and amphitheater
• Event spaces for community gatherings
• Views overlooking the Dallas skyline and nearby zoo

Future phases are expected to expand the park to more than five acres and add even more gathering areas and amenities.

A Major Investment in Southern Dallas

Halperin Park represents roughly a $300 million investment into Southern Dallas and Oak Cliff. Community leaders believe the park could bring billions in economic impact over the coming years by attracting visitors, encouraging development, and creating new opportunities for local businesses.  

Many residents are already comparing the project to Klyde Warren Park in Uptown Dallas — but with a stronger emphasis on neighborhood identity and local history.

The park’s design intentionally reflects the culture and heritage of Oak Cliff through public gathering spaces, artistic elements, and community-focused planning.

A New Destination for Families and Visitors
